Popular Media seems scared silly of bringing up the horrid statistics that, in part, tell the Iraqi story.
The Popular Media does mention that after five tears of fighting following the illegal Invasion On Iraq that more than a million American soldiers have gone off to war there ans more than 4 thousands have been killed and 29 thousand wounded in action while Bush smiles on.
Unfortunately, the real travesty of this war belongs to the Iraqis themselves. This war has cost the Iraqis more than a million lives. These are not soldiers lives, nor are they primarily insurgent lives, though Bush may contend that they're all insurgents. These lives, given up to the invading American military, are primarily lives of innocent children, mothers, fathers and grandparents.
Some of these innocents die in the rubble of their homes as the Americans drop bombs hour after hour, day after day in some areas. Some Iraqis are shot to death sleeping in their beds as the US terrorist military surges through their neighbourhoods. Old men are found shot in the street; left for the dogs to devour.
Others are bombed in groups walking on their streets with no identification by the bombers that they are, in fact, Iraqi fighters. Still others are straifed by gunships, snipers or passing American soldiers from their military vehicles. Some American soldiers have been video taped laughing as they shoot up a wounded man writhing in the street and as they shoot at civilian vehicles. We've seen one or two videos of this so it's only fair to surmise this type of thing must be going on a lot.
The wounded Iraqis are living in a deep part of hell. Many emergency operations have had to be performed by the light of cigarette lighters or candles in clinics with no water, no electricity, no anesthetics and no antibiotics. There is no sympathy or empathy for these innocents trying their best to survive the brutal consequences of this horrid war. The Americans in office seem not to worry themselves about all this pain they are committing to these retched survivours.
Yet, no matter how much of the American population either ignores these travesties of war or continues to wrap themselves in their flag icon bragging about their patriotism. Americans give little care about so many of their veterans arriving home with Post Traumatic Distress Disorder and no thought at all about the Iraqis suffering year after year of trauma.
And all this over the fabrication of "facts" leading up to the illegal Invasion On Iraq.
President Bush, Tony Blair of the UK, and John Howard of Australia piped each others' lies about solid evidence that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction (WMD) that he would turn over to terrorists. The Three Faces of Adam claimed there was 'bullet proof' evidence that Saddam had a long standing relationship with Ossama bin Laden and the al-Quaeda network. Even though the CIA special advisor delivered a thousand page documented report to Congress in 2004 with the conclusion that Saddam had created no WMD since 1991.
Always 'staying the course' , President Bush's Administration worked against the truth and continued on with their fabrication. Even two years down the road Condoleezza Rice spoke on Fox News saying that Saddam and Ossama had "a relationship that went back at least a decade" in 2004. She repeated this lie again in 2006 on Fox. It's not as if she didn't know better.
Even though McClatchey News paper printed that it had been told by an American official that 600 thousand seized Iraqi documents taken after the 2003 illegal invasion showed no evidence that Saddam"s government had any dealings with Ossama bin Laden or the al_Quaeda network.
Yet Bush, ignoring all the facts, stood by his decision to invade Iraq illegally as being the right decision.
And the Popular Media continues to back him up. Is there no truth or justice left in our Popular Media? Or is our media bowing to the wishes of their wealthy and powerful owners? There seems to be a lot of corruption of our basic values of truth in reporting.
