The El Salavadorian Gangs -- Mara Salvatrucha or MS-13

In the 1980's America supported the Christian Democratic Party of the country of El Salvador during its bloody revolution. Don't be confused by the titles in the name; Christian and Democrat because neither world suits the facist right wing terror that had this country in such a cruel grip while being aided financially and with weapons by the Reagan US Administration.

This country basically fell to ruin while the Americans continued their backing of the Christian Democratic Party and Death Squads, working for the government, roamed the countryside killing at will and “disappearing” many people. People were targeted and dragged off during the night by soldiers and mercenaries. Priests and nuns were
also targets of this cruel regime.

The CIA was heavily represented in El Salvador as well as the neighnouring countries of Honduras and Guatemala. The CIA began its crippling attendance in El Salavador way back in 1963 which was another time in history when the US was striking out in all directions while entrenched in their war in Vietnam. It was in 1963 that the US government sent ten Special Forces specialists into El Salvador to back up General Jose Medrano. They did so by setting up the Organizacion Democratica Nationalista more easily remembered as ORDEN. This was the first El Salvadoran death squad. These American specialists taught these squads how to carry out torture to get the answers they wanted – true or untrue. These squads also carried out political assassinations
for the Salvadoran military government.

Some Salvadoran military deserters have implicated US personnel in the death squad activities. Now back to the 1980s with a continued history of criminal death squads acting as torturers, inciters of fear and assassins over this 20 year span and with the continued backing of the American government.

The brutal gang MS-13 had emigrated now to the US and various members had been captured and deported back to El Salvador where they were housed, initially, in Guezaltepeque Prison in north El Salvador. Recruitment was intence in the prison and

Mara Salvatucha grew quickly within its walls.

Many impoverished young people on the dangerous streets of El Salvador flocked to become members and the gang grew expodentially for a time. Quickly MS-13 became El Salvador's most powerful gang with its only rival known as 18th Street or MS-18; another gang attributed to America's interference in Central America.

As late as 2004, with great increases in crime, Mexico began a campaign to get rid of MS-13 when they arrested 300 members and calling them a threat to national security. Today, 2009, we are seeing the violent repercussions of of the inane interferences of the US rogue nation.

Now the US federal government has increased its efforts to deport MS-13 members living in the US. Nevertheless, the US CIA and Special Forces are still creating death squads in Iraq of which many are of the new Iraqi police. In Afghanistan there is the same story is evolving.

“The United States was supporting the government of El Salvador, said President Ronald Reagan, because it was trying "to halt the infiltration into the Americas, by terrorists and by outside interference, and those who aren't just aiming at E1 Salvador but, I think, are aiming at the whole of Central and possibly later South America and, I'm sure, eventually North America." 1

Psychiatrists have a term for such perceptions of reality. They call it paranoid schizophrenia.

If the insurgents in El Salvador, the smallest country by far in all of Central and South America, were engaged in what Ronald Reagan perceived as a plot to capture the

Western Hemisphere, others saw it as the quintessential revolution.”
