Nicaragua - CIA Death Squads
The CIA has been acting in the manner of terrorists in many countries in Central and South America amoung other locales. This activity has resulted, not only in the crushing of democracies but the killing and crushing of many innocent people trying to survive in these countries being targeted by the USA. The CIA created and trained illegal hit squads in Nicaragua to help prop up the elitist regime of the Somoza's by taking out through killing and disappearing any protest against the Somoza life limiting regime. For years this cruel back bone of the Somoza's was supported by the USA through the training offered by the CIA. As long as Somoza remained friendly with the USA the Somoza's were backed by the horror of the disappeared and murdered of the CIA trained death squads.
This type of cruelty of having death squads suddenly 'disappear' a loved one smothered the countryside in terror and horror and the activity lasted for years. A quasi-military group was finally formed beneath the terror structure of the Samosa/CIA regime. They were called the Sandinistas and was led by a man called ORTEGA. They began to win over the rural Nicaragua and they became a serious threat to the Somoza regime. Therefore, the US became more directly involved with a distance referred to as 'plausible deniability'. Reagan didn't send actual American soldiers into Nicaragua but trained a group they euphemistically called the "Contras". They were trained in Florida and armed by the US and led into Nicaragua by the CIA. They managed to keep the Sandinistas from holding power in Nicaragua but the Sandinista's rid the suffering country of the CIA sponsored death squads and the Somoza dictatorial regime. The Sandinista revolution also led to a democracy in Nicaragua that the lying USA claims to have done. Ironically Daniel Ortega, the once leader of the revolutionary Sandinistas, is now voted in as the president of Nicaragua.
Some suggest that things turned out for the better and the past is past. I think not! The ever present CIA and the lurking possibility of death squads lingers and, with the US, it is always a gruesome possibility.
