CIA'sFirst Official Coup
The CIA's first official coup came about in 1953 in Iran, just a few years before Saddam was recruited as a CIA asset in Iraq. The first democratically elected Prime Minister of Iran, PM Mosandeq was overthrown in a manufactured coup initiated by the British and the Americans via the illegal services of the CIA.
PM Mosandeq, in an effort to do the best for his country of Iran,nationalized Iran's oil and had opened talks with their powerfull neighbour the Soviet Union (USSR, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, CCCP) or now known as the Russian Federation.
In this case the US and the UK were working jointly because Britain desperately wanted to keep taking cheap oil from Iran without paying its agreed upon royalty fees. British oil companies had been rippingoff Middle Eastern countries for decades and they didn't want this to end. The British Navy was a glutton for oil.
The Americans wanted oil too, but more importantly, the Americans wanted to establish missile sites along the long Iran/Russian border.
Enter the financially flush CIA. The CIA paid to have false storiespublished in Iran's news services and they paid hundreds to create violent protests condemning PM Mosandeq. The plan worked well andthey managed to destabalize Iran politically. Finally PM Mosandeq was arrested though he'd committed no crime.
The UK and the US then set up the cruel Shah of Iran as dictator. He remained so for 25 years of cruelty to the Iranian people and bowing to the wants of the British and the Americans. This became a very distinct puppet government not at all interested in the wants and needs of the Iranian people.
As has happened frequently over the past few decades the US killed fledgling democracies while espousing its wish to bring freedom to the world. Those lies still reverberate throughout the population of the US as fundamental truths. Americans, for the most part, rather settle for comforting lies over that of unsettling truths. Its seems a national cowardness to take a real good look at themselves.

CIA– Amoral Activities
After WWII, with the Cold War emerging as a grave part of our lives between Russia, the Eastern Bloc and the west, but most specifically between the Soviet Union and America.
Early on the Americans hired Nazis to work for them as spies throughout the Eastern Bloc and into the Soviet Union. One, especially notorious criminal Nazi recruited by the US was Klaus Barbie accurately called The Butcher of Leon. Klaus Barbie was responsible for the murder of thousands in the French Resistance (The French Resistance was much like the insurgents today fighting for their country in Iraq and Afghanistan against American occupation and takeover.) There were many such cases like this.
When the Americans were finished with Barbie they gave him safe passage to a safe and good life in Bolivia. The Americans completely ignored the needs of the French to have closure regarding the thousands of brave Frenchmen working underground to ensure the allied troops their best chance to overpower the German machine.
America enhanced this change of direction in 1947 when President Truman signed into law the National Security Act which pretty much put America into a constant state of war with much of the world and the continuous fear became inbred into the national fabric of America leading many Americans to live in a state of unreasoned paranoia.
The National Security Act of 1947 also gave to Americans the CIA which became the core of the new secrete government which was allowed to work in secret and above the law outside of the US. An illegal terrorist group in reality.
The CIA's first official coup of a foreign government, the government of Iran. This coup mission was completely illegal and, yet, was agreed to by President Eisenhower. This formally set up the USA as a rogue nation.
In the next 20 years the Americans moved in with their missiles and sold, to Iran $18 billion of arms sales. American Oil took over more than half of Iranian Oil while the British took the leftovers.
As Americans enjoyed their massive pilferage along with the British and the freedom to arm the Soviet/Iranian border with a lot of Iranian money going to aid the US aggression.
At the same time Iran became a country of mass torture and dispair. Many Iranians lost their homes and all their money at the whim of the Shah's dictatorial power enhanced by the influence of the British and Americans.
The CIA created the secrete service for the Shah of Iran in the likeness of the CIA. SAVAK was very much an evil organization of death squads the CIA had set up and continued to set up in target countries including today's Iraq.
“SAVAK increasingly to symbolized the Shah's rule from 1963-79, a period of corruption in the royal family, one-party rule, the torture and execution of thousands of political prisoners, suppression of dissent, and alienation of the religious masses. The United States reinforced its position as the Shah's protector and supporter, sowing the seeds of the anti-Americanism that later manifested itself in the revolution against the monarchy.”

Finally in 1979, despite the Americans, the citizens of Iran rose up and forced out the Shah. The Iranians, having suffered 25 years of the Shah's American and British backed cruelty shouted, “Death to the Shah! Death to Americans!”
Who could blame them?
