Failure to Punish

When the perpetrators of genocide are not punished it's as if we, as a society, are giving the green light to torture and murder.  Quite frankly I am numbed by the American people's aguiessence to the use of torture and murder by their presidents and military.  Because of the impunity given mass murderers and tortuters today, just like they did in Argentina, will leave Americans with institutionalized repression by its military in wars worldwide.

We see this impunity in Iraq and specifically in the Seige of the Holy City of Falligah.  We saw this impunity grow in Afghanistan by the Taliban who used to hold multiple hanging and execution style shootings in their occer stadiums.  Now we see the impunity reversed as America bolsters its forces in Afghanistan and the civilian murders rise.

Some time the killing of innocents must stop.  This is no longer so-called colloteral damage.

Remember just a few yers back the GW Bush administration was backing the Taliban atrocities in Afghanistan.  Not long before the UN authorized invasion of Afghanistan President GW Bush had awarded the Taliban Afghanistan government with some 43 million dollars for the Taliban 'control' over the heroine poppy crop.  There was no evident control over the poppies.  There was just a murderous control of the population of Afghanistan that favoured America's control against Russia.  America has never welcomed the Russian population once communism was pushed down.  Because of this there is every evidence that Russia will some day embrace communism once more over that of mafiosa capitalism.

Today in Argentina, because of the lack of will to condemn the military and police death squads, the police and the military renain run by gangsters.  In one violent episode ranging from January to September 1997 there were 116 violent incidents putting fear into the journalists.  The main suspects are the police themselves.  There is no social justice for the Argentinians -- there is only life long sorrow.  And the police and military, somewhat subdued for the time being, are always a threat.  The society lives in fear of a horrid reality that can arise again like a volcano upon the lives of the Argentinian population.  There is still the School of the Americas and other pentagon military terrorist training camps ready to give bad men the training to cause mass violent death.

The Last Note.

The CIA station in Buenos Aires, it has been reported by Bob Woodward, had very close ties with the Argentine Generals.  The Army Battalion 601 was linked to the CIA as well as the Pentagon's Defence Intelligence Agency.  In the turbulant 60's, with attention focused upon the Vietnam War, the CIA brought together Argentine, Brazilian, and Uraguayan military and police for training in intelligence methods and precedures as well as for getting supplies of explosives and untracable guns.  These militaries were taught how to build home-made bombs (improvised explosive devices I believe we call them today).  Some of these "graduates" returned home to blow up the offices of lawyers who represented political prisoners.  They also blew up media outlets and labour organizations.

The CIA coordinated a program in Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Uraguay and Bolivia to hunt down and kill political dissidents in Latin America as well as in Europe and the USA.  This was called Operation Condor.
